The Gunners are looking to add to their attacking options by bagging the Chelsea star
Arsenal fans may still be celebrating following Thierry Henry’s brilliant return against Leeds United last night – but boss Arsene Wenger is now allegedly chasing another forward to help their push for Champions League football.
According to talkSPORT, the Gunners are poised to make a January bid for Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou as Wenger looks to add to his attacking options.
Kalou has only started four games for the Blues this season and looks certain to leave Stamford Bridge.
He is available on a free at the end of the season but Wenger is hoping a £3million bid will get him to the Emirates for the remainder of the season.
Henry’s arrival may have papered over the cracks in Arsenal’s forward line but there can be no denying that the north London side need a more long term solution.
Marouane Chamakh and Andrey Arshavin have been poor for the Gunners this term and the burden of goalscoring has fallen squarely on the shoulders of Robin van Persie.
Thankfully for Wenger, the Dutchman has been able to deliver and he has hit a brilliant 17 Premier League goals already and is currently the 11/10 favourite to be the Premier League top goalscorer.
Bagging Kalou this January would be a big boost to Arsenal’s top four ambitions as, while he’s not the most prolific of scorers, he hit ten goals in the league last season and would help relieve some of the pressure on Van Persie – especially as Arsenal’s next highest scorer is Gervinho with four.
The Gunners are currently 11/10 to finish the season in the top four of the Premier League and the addition of Kalou would only help those ambitions.
